The 2nd Year Girls Basketball Team on Thursday May 9th were announced as the new All-Ireland ‘C’ Level Basketball Champions after a tough but impressive season they proved that they had the potential to win!
At the start of their season, they had easy wins against Tarbert, Killarney Community College, Kanturk and Kenmare. Against the ISK, there was a struggle but the girls managed to win by 5 points after being down by 20 in the 1st quarter. After enjoying a winning streak against schools all around Munster, they then faced Rathcoole (winning by 20 points) and Grennans College in Leixlip, a tough and riveting game that they won by a single point. In the All-Ireland semi-finals they faced Monaghan and won 33-26. Presentation Miltown became back to back 2nd year ‘C’ Girls All Ireland Schools League Champions with a dramatic win over Kinsale in UL. A back and forth contest throughout, the result was in doubt right up to the final buzzer.
A frantic start to the game saw both teams push the ball up the court at speed, the pace created a supreme atmosphere as the players flung themselves into the contest really testing their teamwork and coordination. The game remained fairly even up to the final quarter with both teams driving strong to the basket, however the Miltown girls being 1 point ahead of Kinsale at 24-25 was the deciding factor in the eventual outcome. After an amazing season of basketball I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for these guys!
Thanks to our trainers, Ms.Barton & Ms. Dillane and our supporters.
